| so something we do here in tokyo is a thing called 5 minute english. it's pretty fun and you make fast friends. we usually do it when the volunteers come during the summer and other times, but lately we've been doing on our own. so here's the set up..
go to one of the most crowded area in tokyo..
hold up a cool stylish sign:

shout at the top of your voice, "FREE FIVE MINUTE ENGLISH PRACTICE!!"
then wait for the people to come running upto talk to you! yay! it's usually a big success!
okay well maybe they don't run.. it's more like you convince them, but it's really fun to do.
okay, so there is a little more to.. like sharing the gospel and all that lovely evangelism stuff, but i'm not doing to get into that now.
yep, good times in tokyo. so liz wanted me to share this story.
i making oatmeal raisin cookies tonight and so this afternoon i was out buying the ingrediants and i got some baking soda, vanilla, flour, and some raisins. then when i got home and was unloading my groceries, i realized that the japanese on the raisin said rum raisins! yeah, so my cookies are made with rum raisins. i hope the imb doesn't send me home for making cookies with alcohol in them! hah, whoops!
oh right, almost forgot! happy thanksgiving to all you americans out there!

"People like the
dress, the kiss and the image. Japanese Christians
make up only 1% of the country, but now about 90% of weddings are in the Christian
style."
why?!

| so i finally understand why i do what i do. i found out this week and now things make a ton more sense.
okay first let me explain what i do.. i spread the gospel, of course, but besides that i plant house churches and i don't work with japanese churches to do this.
why? because i work independently.
okay, now i can get into my point as to what is the biggest obstacle.. okay let me first ask this question to all christians.. is it easier to tell someone about christ and through the holy spirit, lead them to christ, that is, evangelize, or just take that someone to church with you so that the church can lead them to christ?
think carefully... now.. if you answered "take them to church", then you just acknowledged the fact that you are not much of a evangelist, right?
which is percisly my point. what happens when a person comes to church and becomes a christian? well, that person will likely invite someone else to church, and then that person will invite someone else, and thus goes the take them to church so the church can minister to them and not me method. then if you acknowledge that most other members are doing the same thing, then what happens? the church gets bigger and bigger and soon another building is needed..
okay, now, let's look in the new testament at the first churches in acts... were peter, paul, barnabas, luke, and the others going out and inviting people to their churches?
no. they weren't. what did they do?
they went out to the people and ministered to them and then made new churches where the new christians were at. that wasn't always a building.. it was usually a house.
what i want to see here in japan is japanese becoming christians through the holy spirit working in japanese christians, not japanese churches. it's not scriptural to invite people to church. it's scriptural to evangelize.
how did we stray away? i don't know, but i do know that i understand and acknowledge this as something that has got to change. i was no different before. i invited people to church too, but now, i will be different.
so what do you think? comments/questions/concerns/thoughts/criticism are more than welcome.
